This is a list I made for my friends to give them ideas of where to go Latin dancing in Toronto. It only applies to Fridays though because it’s less crowded than the rest of the weekend. Give them a try if you’re around!
2464 Yonge Street (just 3 blocks North of Eglinton Ave W on West side)
Type of music on Fridays: Salsa (lessons from 8:45pm – 9:45pm with rotating instructors)
Cover charge: $10, ladies are free before 10pm (salsa classes are extra)
Notes: Big open space, very hot, good beginner and intermediate salsa lessons
2409 Yonge Street (just 2 blocks North of Eglinton Ave W on East side)
Type of music on Fridays: Funk, Soul, Reggae, R&B, and Top 40
Cover charge: $10 Cover (without dinner reservation).
Notes: Small space designed in a C Shape
Don’t know, don’t care… a place who’s tagline is ”where the affluent come to play” will never see my business!! Even if I do become affluent… humph!
842 College Street (West of Ossington on the North side)
Type of music on Fridays: Cuban Salsa
Cover charge: $5
Notes: Live bands, old décor and floor
430 College Street (at Bathurst Street)
Type of music on Fridays: Latin music (salsa, merengue, bachata, reggaeton, etc)
Cover charge: $10 – Ladies free before 10:30pm (except special occasions)
Notes: 2 floors with different DJs, older crowd
1585 Dundas Street West (just West of Dufferin on the South side)
Type of music on Fridays: Themed nights, it varies according to the week.
Cover charge: Admission: $15 before 10:30 – $5 after – Ladies Free after 11pm
Notes: Live bands, sloping dance floor, potential lineups on Saturday nights
423 College Street (at Bathurst Street)
Type of music on Fridays: Fusion of Latin and Top 40
Cover charge: $10
Notes: Big open space, concrete floors, younger crowd (with old geezers around trying to pick them up), heavy rotation of Top 40 music, not only Latin.
